As the holidays are approaching quickly and we get closer to Christmas, orthodontic patients discover a whole set of challenges that they didn’t have to deal with before.
Here are a few suggestions for patients wearing braces or Invisalign over the holidays:
- Watch what you eat
We know that the sticky candy looks amazing, but put it down. Seriously. Just avoid anything that could cling to your braces or worse, pull them off.
- Eat carefully
Whether you’re wearing braces or Invisalign, your teeth may be feeling a little sensitive and chomping on thick, crunchy food may be more difficult than expected. Be prepared to say no to certain foods and look for softer, easier-to-chew items.
More choices on the dinner table can lead to more temptation to ignore the little things you need to do. Cut everything into bite-sized pieces and eat slowly.
- Be prepared
If you’re currently using Invisalign, make sure you bring your case to store your appliance as well as your toothbrush and toothpaste. Yes, you have the advantage of just being able to take it out of your mouth and start eating, but you want to make sure you have something to put the appliance into. And brushing your teeth before you put it back on can’t be forgotten. If you’re wearing braces, you may want to pack a toothbrush to Christmas dinner to make sure there’s no food stuck in the metal when it’s picture time.
Another suggestion we have is to schedule an appointment at Maduke Bulat before the holidays. We can make sure your braces are clean and shiny for all the pictures and, if you want, can attach some festive-coloured bands to get you in the Christmas spirit.
