A toothbrush isn’t simple a bristled brush to clean your teeth. Not anymore at least. Now toothbrushes come in a variety of ways from: hard, soft, medium, electric, manual, sonic, battery operated. These tooth-cleaning warriors are at your disposal for cleaning your teeth in an optimal way.
Choosing the one that is right for you can seem like a battle in itself, but no matter if you are from Surrey, or Delta or a community nearby, as your orthodontics specialist we have some toothbrush buying pointers.
Soften the blow. A soft toothbrush is the way to go. It will give you the clean you need, without the damage you don’t.Smaller is better. Especially with braces where the space is already limited, and the areas you have to get into are reduced even further having a smaller headed toothbrush is a wise choice. In addition to this, we provide you with ‘mini brushes’ that get into the crevices that a toothbrush can’t.
Pack a powerful punch. An electric toothbrush can tackle plaque unlike a manual toothbrush. So if you want an ‘increased clean’, electric is a great option. However, this doesn’t mean you can forgo all the other cleaning regimens required with teeth braces. A more efficient product doesn’t mean you have to put in less effort.
In addition to choosing the brush that is right for you, replacing your toothbrush is also an important part of keeping your mouth plaque-free, tartar resistant and overall healthy.
Replacing your toothbrush every 3-months is the recommended time-frame, and especially with braces which will give your bristles a battle every time you brush so be sure to keep an eye on the state of your toothbrush.
In addition, if you have been sick, it is also wise to replace your toothbrush (or toothbrush head), as you don’t want to be spreading these germs around in your mouth post-sickness.
